Open ornamental
You keep the view. The line is still a boundary.
Aluminum
Aluminum is the ornamental metal that does not rust the way steel does. It still needs posts, racking, and a gate built for the opening.
Aluminum fence installation is the open metal line: flat-top or modest ornamental pickets, usually in black or bronze, used on front yards, side returns, and a large share of pool barriers. People also search aluminium with the extra letter. It is the same conversation.
Repair is hinges, latches, a bent picket, or a post that has loosened. Aluminum does not rust like untreated steel, and it can still crack at a weld or chalk in the sun if the coating was thin. We do not sell it as indestructible.
Cost follows height, picket style, the number of gates, and how hard the grade is to rack. A home aluminum fence and a pool-code version are not always the same product. Spacing and latch height change when the pool is the reason for the fence. Read pool fence if water is in the scope, and metal fence if you are comparing steel ornamental work.

Scope
You keep the view. The line is still a boundary.
Often four feet with rules on gaps and gates. Local code wins over a catalog photo.
Panels that rack are how aluminum crosses a lawn without looking stair-stepped everywhere.
Black is the usual request. Bronze exists. The coating is named on the order.
Hardware first, then bent members. See repair.
Choose aluminum to avoid a paint cycle. Choose steel when the look is heavier wrought iron. See metal.
Compare
A photo of a black fence is not a spec.
| Line | Decision | Miss it and |
|---|---|---|
| Height | Yard look versus pool rule | The fence is pretty and noncompliant. |
| Picket spacing | Pets, kids, code | Gaps that fail the barrier test. |
| Gate hardware | Self-closing when required | A gate that stays open. |
| Posts | Set for the panel and the gate | Sag at the opening. |
| Racking | How slope is taken | A jagged top or a buried bottom. |

Process
View fence, pool barrier, or both. The hardware list changes.
Walk the slope before the panels are ordered in a single height story.
Aluminum systems have a post size. Improvised wood posts are not the product.
Fasteners hidden or specified, not a handful of mixed screws.
Especially at a pool, the latch is part of the fence, not a last-day add.
Sight the top. A black fence shows a wave immediately.
Field notes
Dissimilar metals and a cheap hinge are how a “no rust” fence grows a rust stain.
A decorative wide gap is the wrong panel beside water.
A wash may be enough. Recoating is a different scope. We will say which.
Scroll-heavy steel and clean aluminum are different budgets. Look at both pages.
On a front yard it has to agree with the porch. On a pool it has to agree with the inspector’s tape measure. Those can be the same product family and still need different gates. The residential page is the broader brief. This page is the material.
Bent pickets can sometimes be replaced from the same line. A faded bronze that no longer exists in that profile is a conversation about living with it or replacing the run. We will not powder-coat one bay in the driveway and call it factory.
Questions
Style, height, gates, and slope. We quote after the line is walked.
The metal itself is chosen because it does not rust like bare steel. Hardware and coatings still need the right spec.
It is a common barrier material when spacing, height, and self-closing gates meet the local rule.
Yes. Latches, hinges, and individual members, when the posts are sound.
Black aluminum is usually lighter and lower maintenance. Heavy scrollwork is often steel. Compare the metal page.
Many systems rack. The proposal should say how your grade is handled.
